Eco School Green Flag Award

Green Flag Award 2007

In July 2007 two Eco assessors from ENCAMS came to visit the Meadow to see how the school had met the criteria in the 7 elements of the International Eco Schools programme. If successful the school would receive a large green Flag with the Eco logo on to display in school.

The children were very excited and the assessors spoke to lots of them as they looked in all the classrooms at displays and work relating to Eco topics.
The School council reps were able to explain to the assessors the steps taken in school to raise Eco awareness.
Two children represented Gardening Club and took the assessors on a tour of Claire's Garden and Wild Life area. The children showed them the bird feeding stations, the pond and vegetable bed.

After looking through all the many forms and photographs the assessors left us to report to ENCAMS in Wigan. They gave us no clues on how well we had done!
During the final assembly of the year the phone call came to say the Meadow School had achieved the Green Flag. Everyone was very excited and it was important that the Yr 6 children and Judith O'Connell, who had played such a big part in the Eco Schools programme, were still in school to hear the news.

The Meadow keeps the Flag for two years, and then we are re assessed.
We are planning to hang it in school.

Everyone on the Eco team would like to thank all the support and help given to the school in achieving the award.
